※Due to the coronavirus fears, some events of Wisteria Festival and the night illumination have been canceled.

Kameido Tenjin Shrine has been called the best place in Tokyo to see Japanese Wisteria(Fuji) in full bloom. It is located near Tokyo Skytree.
These wisteria vines were planted during Edo period(1603-1867), and were the subject of many ukiyo-e prints.
Over 100 beautiful purple wisterias full bloom and hang at the historic shrine site, that view has been attracting many people for a long period. Beneath the wisteria trellises is a quiet pond, creating a tranquil scene of purple flowers reflected on the surface of the water.
Along with the magnificent scenery of wisterias, the festival also features a lot of food stalls offering such as local seafood or Japanese dessert. Moreover, the flowers are lit up at night, you can enjoy the mystical view of the illuminated wisterias.

Amazing find! We will be back when other things such as the wisteria are blooming. Small area but packed with a lot of trees and the temple. We could hear them chanting inside, which is just awesome! Nice pond area with turtles and ducks. Close to sky tree, you can see from the park.

Favorite shrine for the Japanese to visit for a new year worship. A long queue but not too long for wait

We visited Kameido Tenjin for the liar bird omamori. If you’re in Tokyo on January 24 or 25, it’s worth taking the trip out there to purchase your own liar bird charm. It’s a nice temple with some great omamori. The temple apparently is gorgeous during wisteria season, so be sure to check it out then.

A really nice and calming shrine where it's located just few minutes walk away from Tokyo Skytree. Wouldn't call it small in size, but compared to most visited shrines in Tokyo, it would feel small. I stayed in a place near the shrine, so I came a few times and felt really lucky, as I wouldn't have made plans to visit the shrine otherwise. In my visits I would only see locals in and around the neighbourhood, which made me took a step back just slowing down from all the modern city life Tokyo has to offer.
