Plum blossom(Ume) is a special flower for Japanese that tells people spring is just around the corner.
Why don't you visit "Mito Plum Blossom Festival" at "Kairakuen" which is one of the three great gardens in Japan?
"Kairakuen" is the large garden which was built in 1842 by the local lord Tokugawa Nariaki with 3,000 trees of around 100 varieties of plum blossoms. Kairakuen means "park to be enjoyed together".
Viewing plum blossoms is not the only fun to be had.
You can also enjoy other events such as "Nodate(outdoor green tea ceremony)", the photo session with Mito Komon, and Taiko(Japanese drum) performance.

Amazing in bloom. Visited as the plum blossoms were finishing. Was also festival on at the same time. If it was out of season probably wouldn't rate as 5 stars. Beautiful park nether the less.

This is one of the top three parks in all of Japan. It is is rich in history and is extremely lively during the plum blossom festival held in early spring. During the festival there are many events including tea ceremonies, live music, plum wine tasting, stalls selling grilled chicken, squid and more, illuminations in the evening of the plum trees and bamboo forest and even a short display of fireworks one of the evenings. While early March is best for the plum blossom festival, it is a nice spot to go for a walk in every season.

A huge, historical and beautiful park. The access is not necessarily good, and it’s better to go by car, though the parking lot is always very crowded.

It is my first time to visit this park, while I know the name for a long time. There is an interesting history with this park. I believe however this park is worth to visit regardless the history.

Kairakuen is one of the three great gardens of Japan. It is a vast landscaped park located on top of a hill in Mito, with the commanding view of surrounding area. I came in late April at the time of azalea blooming. I think end of March would be the best time to visit with the ume and sakura in blooms. I will come again!
