Matsumoto Castle is located in Matsumoto city, Nagano prefecture, 2.5 hours by express trains from Tokyo.
Now in Japan, there are only 12 existing castles that still retain their original castle keep. Matsumoto Castle is one of the 12 original construction castles and has five-floor. Five-floor castles are only Matsumoto Castle and Himeji Castel.
In addition, this castle features of the elegant black walls and sometimes called "Crow Castle". The view of Matsumoto Castle with a wide moat, bridges, and Northern Alps Mountains is absolutely photogenic.
In April, approximately 300 cherry trees burst into bloom, and the trees are illuminated at night. It's really stunning!

"Nighttime Cherry Blossom Viewing" is held on 3/31-4/17 at Matsumoto Castle Honmaru Garden. Performances of gagaku (Japanese classical music) with three instruments (sou, shakuhachi), and the flute, will be held in Tsukimi-yagura. Really a beautiful castle. It is easy to see why is considered one of the best to visit in Japan. The outside is truely beautiful and the inside still has the original feel despite being a mini museum. Not true of all Japanese castles some of which feel more like modern buildings. Definitely one of my favourites. Well worth the visit!

I love the fact that it's still in it's original form and not modernized into a museum like most castles are on the inside! Such gorgeous wood and just a remarkable place to visit! Stairs are quite steep and visitors must remove their shoes! Definatly worth the visit as you get the feel of what it was really like back in the 1500's in a military castle!

What a beautiful castle! The best part was our English speaking tour guide. The tour guides refuse to accept any money. They are simply happy to take you through the castle and share their knowledge. Our tour guide was phenomenal.

Everyone has a favorite castle in Japan and this is mine. It is very rare for a castle to be largely black in color and this 'Crow' castle is justly famous. And beautiful.
Examine the castle from outside across the moat. Note its balance and beauty. Then count the floors. Then go inside the castle and count the floors. There are clearly 5 floors in the castle when seen from the outside. But there are actually 6 floors inside the castle. Overall, this is a fine example of castle architecture and tells a lot about how castles were used in the Sengoku period.
Highly Recommended.

I really enjoyed spent my time with family in this park. Before you come to this park, you can buy bread for feeding animals. Especially we can feeding fishes, birds, ducks.
It’s a great day when I was there. Love this park ❤️
