Takato Castle Ruins Park(Takato Joshi Park) in Takato town, Nagano Prefecture is one of the three best spots to see sakura cherry blossoms in Japan, along with Hirosaki Castle in Aomori and Yoshinoyama in Nara.
The variety of the cherry trees in the park is takato-kohigan-zakura, which is smaller and more reddish than somei-yoshino cherry trees.
There are more than 1,500 sakura cherry trees in the park, which are called "Second to None" cherry blossoms.

The park is so small that you can walk round it in 10 minutes. However, there are so many cherry blossoms. And they are thick. Due to the location of this place, the temperature was low, 2°C in the morning when I was there.

Beautiful during the cherry blossom season this park is definitely worth visiting late March/early April. This year, 2021 with the corona virus still affecting everything, there are various measures being taken while entering (temperature check, hand sanitation sites, social distancing, personal info written down).
The views are quite spectacular with the Kiso mountains framed with Sakura blooms and around the park there are some relics of the Takato castle ruins. Just be prepared to pay for parking (¥1000) if you don’t want to walk up the hill from the free parking lot by the Mibu river below. Either way there is still a admission fee as you enter.
