Maruyama Park is the oldest park in Kyoto and located in the center of Gion area, next to Yasaka Shrine.
In the park, there is a walk-through Japanese garden with a pond in the centre. And the symbol of Maruyama Park, "Weeping Cherry of Gion", stands at the center of the park.

From middle-March each year, when approximately 800 cherry trees are in full bloom, Maruyama Park becomes Kyoto's most popular spot for viewing cherry blossoms. Especially the big "Weeping Cherry(shidare-zakura) of Gion" which is over 80 years old and 12-m tall attracts everyone. In the evening, the weeping cherry tree is illuminated with LED lights, and it creates a magical sight you would never experienced before!

Maruyama Park is such a nice place. Been there last Feb 26 and I already feel the calmness of the place. Much more to expect if the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. It will be a lovely place.

Contrary to European gardens, this place feels perfect in the most natural way possible. Really tells you a lot about the people who live and maintain Japan. I recommend!

The park itself is pretty nice to stroll around in the morning and evening. During spring, there are many sakura blooming where you can enjoy.

Came here at the end of October. The minute you step in, there's this air of tranquility. It's much quieter and less crowded than the nearby Yasaka Shrine. It's very peaceful and beautiful and a great respite from the crowd and the city.

Very pretty park with lots of nice autumn leaves. Relaxing stroll garden that is worth finding. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the relaxed area before heading to the next temple.
