from 3/20 '20 to 4/7 '20
Maruyama Park is the oldest park in Kyoto and located in the center of Gion area, next to Yasaka Shrine.
In the park, there is a walk-through Japanese garden with a pond in the centre. And the symbol of Maruyama Park, "Weeping Cherry of Gion", stands at the center of the park.
From middle-March each year, when approximately 800 cherry trees are in full bloom, Maruyama Park becomes Kyoto's most popular spot for viewing cherry blossoms. Especially the big "Weeping Cherry(shidare-zakura) of Gion" which is over 80 years old and 12-m tall attracts everyone. In the evening, the weeping cherry tree is illuminated with LED lights, and it creates a magical sight you would never experienced before!

Maruyama Park is an awesome park to visit as it's free and has plenty of space. Visit during spring to see the flowers particularly the weeping cherry try. VIsit in Autumn and see the trees "burn" in a yellow and orange foliage. I visited Maruyama Park with my family last December 2019 and I'd say that it was an awesome time. You should come visit or add this park to your itinerary as well.

Maruyama Park is such a nice place. Been there last Feb 26 and I already feel the calmness of the place. Much more to expect if the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. It will be a lovely place.

Early March the trees are completeley barren but ambiance remains very serene. There was a flock pigeons chattering around the river. Maybe better during summer or autumn season.

Came here at the end of October. The minute you step in, there's this air of tranquility. It's much quieter and less crowded than the nearby Yasaka Shrine. It's very peaceful and beautiful and a great respite from the crowd and the city.

A very pretty park. There are a number of temples if that is your thing. Great to walk around and take photos. There are a few food vendors here so you could try done local delicacies.
