Due to the coronavirus concerns, Blackship Festival has been canceled in 2020.

Shimoda city in Shizuoka prefecture was the first port of Japan after the arrival of the American Commodore Perry and his "Blackships" in 1854.
Blackship Festival (Kurofune Festival) started in 1934 in remembering the great achievement of Perry and for continued contribution to international goodwill.

On the first day of the festival, "Fireworks Show on the Sea" is held. Then on the second day, there will be ceremony and memorial parades of blackships as well as various exciting events such as music shows and Geisha dance performance.

The theme of the festival is "Travel Back to the End of Edo Priod", you can see many people dressed in Kimono and historical attire are walking around the city.
Also, the parade of US Navy and the parade of Japan Navy are the must-see events.

NIGIWAI Parade (May 19th) : 11:00 at Main Street
