Jun/7 - 17, 2019 Sanno Festival at Hie Shrine4.7
from 6/7 '19 to 6/17 '19
The Sanno Festival at Hie Shrine is one of the three great festivals of Tokyo, along with Kanda Festival and Fukagawa Festival.
During 11 days, the various events such as a Shinto music and dance performance, tea ceremony, a taiko drum performance, and a parade of children dressed in court pages(6/9) are held everyday. On June 15, there is a ceremony where prayers are offered for the safety of the Imperial Palace and peace in Tokyo.
The main attraction of Sanno Festival is the 300-meter long procession parade of floats and mikoshi, but it's held only once every 2 years. And 2019 is not the year of that.
Access: a 5-min walk from Kokkaigijidomae Station, or a 3-min walk from Tameike-Sanno Station

Very nice Japanese shrine. Once you try to get a good pic down through the orange scriptures. There’s a mad area of mosquitoes. Everyone ended up getting bit more then 5 times trying to get the perfect picture.

Amazing shrine. Very modern and in the middle of a metropolis. Has escalators, but they only start once you walk to them. Also automatic sensors for the cleansing area. Don't leave without looking for the Torii gate walkway. We came early in the morning so was very peaceful.

Very beautiful, serene and quiet shrine. There are a lot of steps, although from one side there are escalators up a huge walkway if you're going to struggle with the walk up. The stairs with the gateways were stunning, although prepare to be a meal for mosquitos on the short trek! Well worth the visit though.

If you want to quickly visit a shrine in Tokyo, this is an easily accessible one. It's blissful to be in a peaceful area full of trees surrounded by towering buildings. You can take beautiful pictures there, and the walk up is quite fun haha

Beautiful Shrine in the middle of Tokyo! A hidden gem.
This place is not crowded, which is great for photos and for enjoying the place without lots of people walking around.
There is no entrance fee.
