Jun/7 - 17, 2019 Sanno Festival at Hie Shrine4.7
from 6/7 '19 to 6/17 '19
The Sanno Festival at Hie Shrine is one of the three great festivals of Tokyo, along with Kanda Festival and Fukagawa Festival.
During 11 days, the various events such as a Shinto music and dance performance, tea ceremony, a taiko drum performance, and a parade of children dressed in court pages(6/9) are held everyday. On June 15, there is a ceremony where prayers are offered for the safety of the Imperial Palace and peace in Tokyo.
The main attraction of Sanno Festival is the 300-meter long procession parade of floats and mikoshi, but it's held only once every 2 years. And 2019 is not the year of that.
Access: a 5-min walk from Kokkaigijidomae Station, or a 3-min walk from Tameike-Sanno Station

Beautiful little shrine ⛩️ where you don't expect it: in the middle of some tall buildings and close to a neighbour with a lot of nice places where to eat and some shops. Highly recommended a visit here and then having lunch/dinner in one of the close by restaurants (less than 10 minutes walk).

Quiet, and beautiful. Friendly staff (monks?) taught us how to cleanse before getting into the shrine to pray. Interesting people watching in morning hours before work, as some government workers visit the shrine before hitting the office.

Beautiful shrine!!!! You don't have to go to Kyoto to get a picture with the red poles (not sure if that's the proper word). Located in Tokyo. So come here for picture opportunities! Also, many tourists don't know about this place so it is not crowded at all! The shrine itself is also cool to check out, highly recommended :)

A quintessential shrine complex in the centre of the National Government district. Search the southwest entrance for escalators. Big staircases, sword museum, forest and building surrounds, torī gate rows, and of course a colourful shrine with pavilion.

Really pretty shrine. The red tori gates are beautiful, and the monkey theme is unique. Be ready to climb some stairs, but it's worth the effort.
