Aug/24, 2019 Miyajima Fireworks Festival3.8
from 8/24 '19 to 8/24 '19
Miyajima Island in Hiroshima Prefecture is one of the most scenic spots in Japan and is known for Itsukushima Shrine and its floating red torii gate.
On August 24, the Fireworks Display is held at Miyajima Town, which is one of the most famous fireworks shows in Japan.
The festival features Underwater Fireworks, a fantastical combination of aerial and water pyrotechnics. The highlight of the show is the uniquely choreographed fireworks set off from offshore boats that explode over the water surface; illuminating the torii gate and casting brilliant reflections on the water. Around 200 of the 5,000 fireworks are launched from the water.
The scene with the torii gate silhouetted by the illumination of the fireworks attracts thousands of photo enthusiasts.
Also, there are about 500 sightseeing ships for viewing fireworks from the best spot.
Dates: August 24 (Sat), 19:30pm～20:30pm
*In case of the stormy weather, it will be postponed to August 31.
Access: From Hiroshima Station, take the JR Sanyo Line to Miyajimaguchi Station. Then, take the ferry from Miyajimaguchi to Miyajima Pier (10 minutes).

One of 3 iconic sight in the Japan. At high tide it's appeared as floating and sometimes at low tide visitors can walk through it. Most famous photographed example of the Japan.

What an amazing piece of architecture! It’s a free standing structure that holds an energy only known to those who have visited.

A landmark (under restoration)
The Itsukushima Shrine Torii was under restoration (august 2019)... what a pity, but there's nothing we could do about it. It's an iconic image of Japan and the visit is worth. If you have time, you can enjoy it with the low and high tide, from different angles and lights. I think it's worth spending the night in Miyajima and be able to see the Torii without so many tourists. And the sunset and sunrises are amazing.

Certainly an icon of Japan, the Itsukushima Floating Torii Gate is on the island Miyajima, well worth a day trip if you are visiting Hiroshima.
There is also the famous Itsukushima Shrine and a few other places worth visiting on this island.
The Tofii looks totally different at high and low tides, so much so I made an exhibition of my photos of it at different times.
