Aug/9 - 12 Yosakoi Dance Festival4.4
from 8/9 '19 to 8/12 '19
The Yosakoi Dance Festival in Kochi is one of Japan's largest festivals with more than 60 years history.
On August 9, the eve of the festival, about 4,000 fireworks are launched into the night sky. And the main festival takes place on August 10th and 11th, and the closing day is on August 12th. So the entire festival is spread over 4days.
During the Yosakoi Festival, around 200 teams of dressed dancers from across Japan come and perform throughout the downtown. Dancers carry the wooden clappers, called "Naruko". While all participating teams must use music based on the “Yosakoi Naruko Odori” traditional local folk tune, they are free to alter the song to suite their style, and spectators can now enjoy a fantastic variety of arrangements, from rock to reggae.
