----------------------------------------------------------

Naritasan Temple is a large and highly popular Buddhist temple complex in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture. It is very near the Narita International Airport, the convenient location allows visitors in transit to visit the temple.
Naritasan Temple has a history of over 1000 years, and its main sacred object is a statue of the Buddhist "Fudo Myo-O" deity made by Kukai (Kobo-Daishi).
The Gion Festival is originally the shrine festival of Shinto religion, so it is highly rare that Gion Festival is held at the temple of Buddism.

The Okunoin cemetary which enshrines Dainichi Nyorai is opened to public only during the festival, and the incantation of AMAKUNI sword is performed in Komyodo Hall.

During the festival, 10 decorated ritual floats parade around Naritasan for 3 days, it's so energetic and powerful!
And the main features of the festival are the "So-odori" dance performance and the "So-hiki" parade of festival cars and portable shrines on the final day, you shouldn't miss that.

Also, there are a lot of food stalls on the street, enjoy the eat-and-walk!

You will be impressed even though you're not religious. It has very nice architecture. Please pay attention to the details.
If you are religious or just want to have good luck, don't forget to get the luck charm with fire blessing. You can do this ritual all year around.

Amazing. Such an amazing temple, with such history. We were lucky enough to have some local guide volunteers to show us around and explain the history of this 1000 year old temple. There is a regular fire ceremony in the main temple. A must visit.
