Gogyo dance, which is also counted as one of Japan's top three major folk dances and top three major bon dances, is a big traditional event that colors the summer of Okumino's castle town "Gujo Hachiman".
It is the longest festival in Japan that will be held about 2 months from mid-July to early September for about 30 nights.
It is a summer specialty of Gujo Hachiman which has 400 years of history. The sounds of the summer night which the sound of the clogs, Ohayashi (Japanese orchestra) and murmuring of the stream overlap and echoes in the mountains.
"Kawasaki" "Spring piece" and all ten types of songs are very luxurious dances that dance in "live music performance" by Hozonkai and others.
* All 10 songs are designated as important intangible folk cultural properties of Japan
People freely dance circling clockwise, centering around the group of Hayashi on cabin playing the Gujo-bushi (Gujo beat). Because the venue may be on street, the circle is not necessarily circular. There is a fixed form for each song for dancing. The basic dance move is very simple, so even beginners and tourists will be able to dance together smoothly. Participation in dancing is completely free, and there is no regulation to jump in and leave. Usually, the number of dancers is overwhelmingly larger than onlookers.
It is not a "festival" dance like many festivals, but "participate" dancing, it is popular that anyone can join the ring of dancing regardless of age, gender, nationality or experience! Choice of clothes are free, but dancing in yukata is the basic.
Odoriyakata-nagashi and other ceremonies will be held for 32 nights in total.
Various competitions of individuals, groups, district opposition, disguise dancing, etc. are held, and castle town fireworks festival, "All night dance" will be held from August 13th to 16th, dancing from 8 o'clock to the next morning. Especially during the street dance period, it is crowded with as many as 170,000 dancing customers.

What an amazing place - not just the temple itself, but the view and the forest around it, amazing to visit. So pretty and mysterious. The people are really friendly here, and quite helpful. I can’t remember what you said to me, but it was nice. Highly recommended

This castle features amazing architecture and some unique features like the different shaped gun ports along the walls. You have a spectacular view of Hachiman from here and there are several hiking trails that connect with other locations nearby.

Gujo Hachiman is a great 400yr old castle with lots of history to tell you. You can reach it via car (with parking lot) or walking through a beautiful nature trail. The place itself offers a variety of pretty sceneries, some historical objects distributed through 3 floors (it can be very boring for kids thou). Bathrooms only in the parking lot. ENJOY!

Beautiful castle which even has an exhibition inside (and a 360 view of the surrounding city and mountains)
