Oi-machi is the town next to Odawara City. Oi Yosakoi Hyotan Festival is the biggest festival in Oi-machi town, held in August.
"Hyotan" is a plant of the gourd family and bears fruit which has very hard shell and usually narrow in the middle. Hyotan is also known as a symbol of good luck. In 1970, the station attendant set a Hyotan in the waiting room of Kami-Oi Station and that scene made the cover of the Time Table Book of Japan Railway. That's why the name of festival includes Hyotan.
The festival features "Yosakoi Hyotan Dance Contest" and "Junior & Kids Dance Festival".
Junior & Kids Dance Festival is held from 11:30AM, various kinds of dancing such as Hip Hop Dancing, Jazz Dancing, and Yosakoi Dancing are performed.
And from 17:00PM, the main event "Yosakoi Hyotan Dance Contest" is held at Keyaki Street. About 800 people in traditional clothes dance
and jump with Yosakoi rythms.
Also, a lot of food stalls are opened along the street, so you can enjoy having local food!
As a finale of the festival, the fireworks display starts from 20:30PM. The fireworks display reflected on the lake would be spectacle.
