Decided to visit after all the great write up and recommendations. We made the trek from Tokyo. It was a 2D1N trip. Nice to see how the houses were built and still stand the test of time. Would have loved to see them snow covered but alas the weather was too kind on us. We had perfect sunny weather all throughout! :)

Loved the country and this village in particular. Interesting construction and history. Had the opportunity to dine with a local family. Family was here for 6 generations. Food was excellent. Dining is an art, many rules and rituals involved. All revere their and respect their elders.

Care to pack as much living history as possible into one visit? This is the place. All of the houses are lived in and everyone seems to know how to handcraft everything in their stores. I wish I had gotten more souvenirs here. It's hard to get to, so make sure you have enough time put on the side to enjoy the sites. Most places close at 5PM, so earlier is better.

A great place for a morning walk with a great view of mountains and traditional village houses. Stop by the little food stalls as you walked around the village and be surprise with the great taste they offer. Go up the observation deck for a top down view of the whole village.

The reason we came to Gifu Prefecture! It was absolutely adorable and so picturesque, even in the muddy season. I wish we had gotten snow but it was still lovely. I’m sure any season in this village is just magical. Lovely views on the drive and of the surrounding mountains. Highly recommend!
