Saidaiji Eyo (Saidaiji Naked Festival) is one of the Japan’s three major eccentric festivals with over 500 years history.
This festival is approximately 10,000 half-naked men scramble and grapple for 2 small wooden sticks to be a lucky man.
At 10 p.m., the lights are turned off and a pair of sacred wood are thrown by a priest into the crowd from a ledge above. Approximately 10,000 men dressed only in a white loincloths jostle and push each other to be the one to get one of these 2 sticks. Those who get the sacred wooden stick is said to be blessed with luck for this year. Foreign visitors are also able to participate.

The festival continues over 2 weeks after the Saidaiji Eyo, the food stalls and the market are lined up around the venue.
Kid's Parade(Feb.23), the Goma Saito Fire Ritual(Mar.1), and Kitsugan Festival where you can enjoy music performances and horse-riding(Mar.3) are scheduled.
