Rurikoin Temple is located in Yase area of Kyoto, and it exhibits only twice a year, in spring and autumn.
It is famous for having beautiful Japanese-style gardens, Ruri-no-niwa and Garyo-no-niwa. The view of autumn leaves from Ruri-no-niwa is especially fantastic.

Hundreds of maple trees are planted in the Ruri-no-Niwa. The landscape from the second floor of the Shoin, where the window view is full to the brim with gorgeous leaves courtesy the garden's maple trees. This view is what has made Rurikoin Temple famous in recent years, with the gorgeous greens of fresh leaves or the warm tones of autumn ones reflected off the polished wooden floors and the large tables set on the inner tatami mats.

The best season is mid-November, and Rurikoin will be so crowded by tourists from home and abroad.
They have entrance regulation and the max number to enter in will be 30.

Beautiful and scenic temple. I think it'd be wonderful to see it in the fall, but just the greenery in itself is beautiful enough.

I should have listened to the other poor reviews. I went there with no queue but I would still rate this place a single star. This is by far the biggest tourist trap in Kyoto. The building is 90 years old and was a hotel for most of its life until 30 years ago when it became a temple. You get about 5 rooms which can be seen in 15 mins. The rooms are fairly bland but the views of the garden very nice however you are not allowed into the garden and you only have access to about five rooms of the so-called temple. You are instructed to take photo using the black lacquered table in the middle of the room. If your a tourist that’s a sheep go there. However there are so many amazing places in Kyoto and gardens you go for free or places that cost a reasonable 200 to 400 yen. I can’t believe they can justify a ridiculous fee for what it is.

Entrance fee is JPY 2000 per person, which is more expensive than any other temples or shrines in Kyoto. The actual garden and temple is quite small, though the design of the garden is special. What’s very annoying is that there is a queue at the main gate and we waited 30min just to get the tickets. The view in summer is just all green (probably better to come in autumn). This place was on my bucket list and now as I ticked the box, won’t come back here again.
