Rurikoin Temple is the quiet temple situated in Yase, at the foot of Mount Hiei in Kyoto. Yase is located northeast of the downtown, about 1 hour away from Kyoto Station.
Rurikoin Temple used to not open to the public, but now is exhibited only twice a year, in spring and autumn.
The temple has three differrent types of Japanese-style Gardens such as Ruri-no-niwa, the tea house called Kiraku-tei, and Japanese style steam bath.
Rurikoin Temple is famous for its scenic beauty of maple leaves, planted hundreds maple trees in the temple. Especially, green new leaves in spring and red and yellow leaves in autumn are breathtaking. In spring, the green outside reflected on the floor is beautiful.

Went today and only saw 3 other people there, which meant it was very quiet. The best times are when it is full green (now) and in the autumn. The price to enter is ¥2000. You have to rest your camera on the table itself to get the “reflection” picture. If you are patient even during crowded times there, you can easily see it.

I was there in June 2019 with all of the luscious green leaves. So beautiful and serene.

Yet another beautiful place in Kyoto. Do make your reservation before coming here. I was lucky that I got in without reservation.

It was too full of people, and the famous table that reflects the garden was extremely disappointing! Wouldn't recommend anyone to go, there are so many other nicer temples around Kyoto, and for way less price as well!
