The Sakichi Shrine is an intangible cultural heritage of Fukui Prefecture and has over 430 years history.
Takahama 7 Years Festival is held once every six years. A ceremony is held to appease the deity responsible for illness, and vengeful spirits, and three mikoshi(portable shrines) carrying the deity are taken to a temporary resting place for seven days.
3 portable shrines carried by men dressed in traditional white costume parade around the town, and varied traditional performances such as sword dancing, rice planting dancing, and kagura music are held.
In the end of the festival, the portable shrines are taken along the coast, and the spirits are returned to the sea in the "Ashi-arai", feet washing ritual.
