Named after the traditional straw sandals(Waraji) for traveling, Fukushima's annual festival to mark the summer is held in early August.
It features a huge Waraji that measures 12 meters in length and weighs 2 tons. The gigantic Waraji is carried in a parade by people who pray for strong walking and safe travelling before housed in a shrine.

On the first day of the festival, some events such as Waraji Dance, Waraji Parade, and Waraji Race are scheduled.
On the second day, the brand-new Waraji Dance is performed with the band, and also you can join the Waraji Workshop.
Then on the final day, Waraji Dedication Ceremony is offered at Haguro Shrine, and the traditional folk dance took place at Machinaka Hiroba.
