Kiryu Yagibushi Festival is held at Kiryu City in Gunma Prefecture and also known as Kiryu Gion Festival.
Kiryu City is a small town, but during the festival period, approximately 600,000 people visit this town!
The main attraction is the Yagibushi music and Yagibushi dancing. The Yagibushi dance has been passed down from generation to generation since 1519. Huge turrets are set up around the city center, and a series of lively dancing circles gather around turrets.
A large number of events are also scheduled, including Dance Yagibushi, an original dance performed to a song containing the Yagibushi melody, and a national Yagibushi song contest.
On August 3&4, Mikoshi portable shrines are carried by local people through the towns. The Mikoshi parade is one of the must-see events of the festival.
