Kisarazu City in Chiba Prefecture is famous for Japanese raccoon dog, "Tanuki", which is familiar in Japanese folks tale.
In Shojoji Temple in Kisarazu City, there is a folk tale of Tanukis and priests partying together on a moonlit night at a garden. This folk tale is counted as one of the "big three Tanuki legends of Japan", and is also well known as a nursery rhyme.
As part of a memorial service for this legend Tanuki, Tanuki Festival takes place each year on October at Shojoji Temple.
