Taketa Bamboo Lantern Festival, such a fantastic festival which brings you to the mysterious world, is held annually on November at Taketa City, Oita Prefecture. Oita Prefecture is known as the place of No.1 production of Japanese bamboo.
This 3-days festival attracts over 100,000 people in and out of Japan every year.
At 4 p.m.,when the temple bell ring, approximately 20,000 bamboo lanterns start to be lit up.
If you bring your own lighter, you have a chance to light lanterns by yourself. And also kids can join with their parents.
Our recommend route is ; start from Bungo-Taketa Statin, go through the Welcome Zone, and go on to Historical Path.
Please follow the signs with an arrow. Please also note that some paths are one-way. Join us for lighting up the lanterns!
Juroku Rakan is the most popular spot during the festival. 3,000 lanterns arranged are the masterpiece.
The old stone steps at Kannonji Temple and the shadow of Rakan Statue are very impressive.
Even if rains, you can see lanterns at this site.
In addition, lots of food stalls sell local specialty are lined up. Enjoy Oita's gourmet!
