Mount Yoshino is a 690-meter tall mountain in the town of Yoshino in Nara Prefecture. It covers all over the mountain paths around 8 kilometers, from Yoshino River to Omine mountains.
It is also a base of Omine spiritual mountain walk for decipliants. A path between Yoshino-Omine and Yuya is called Omine Okukudou and is still used for religeous training.
The spiritual site and path in Kii, including Mt. Yoshino, was approved as one of UNESCO World Heritage.
Mount Yoshino is known as one of the Japan's best spots for viewing sakura cherry blossom in spring, and the fall foliage of ginkgo and maple trees in autumn is also magnificent.
To enjoy the autumn foliage, you can go not only by hiking up the mountain, also go by taking the ropeway. The Yoshino Ropeway is the oldest ropeway in Japan, and it takes only 3 minutes to the summit. Enjoy the ride through the sky while taking in the surrounding scenery of beautiful autumn leaves.
Furthermore, during the autumn foliage viewing season, several spots including the areas around the Mt. Yoshino Tourist Parking Lot, the Kinpusen-ji Temple, Niomon gates and the Naka-senbon Ogino Valley, are lit up with decorative lighting to allow for viewing the fall colors even at night.
