Goryokaku is a star-shaped pentagon fort in Hakodate City, Hokkaido. And Goryokaku Park is a popular spot for viewing cherry blossoms in spring. Approximately 1,600 cherry trees reach in full bloom around the moat of Goryokaku Park. The contrast view of cherry blossoms and some mountains covered with snow in the background is simply stunning.

Historical place which is a must-see. Also nice surrounding.

I could only do a quick walk around early in the morning, but even in winter this is a very unique place. Not to mention it's such an important location for Japanese history. I hope I can come back and see the view from the tower!

Nice place to take a walk, but don't expect much from a park perspective. The main two attractions are the Magistrate office and the nearby Observatory (both of which need payment for admission).
A brief walk to admire the stonework and bridge is about it. Not much of a view from the park itself.
Parking is a tad pricey, recommend taking public transport to get there and walk around thereafter.
