Rikugien Garden is one of the Tokyo's most beautiful Japanese gardens along with Koishikawa Korakuen.
It is a strolling garden built in Edo Period(around 1700) for the 5th Tokugawa Shogun, and features a large central pond surrounded by islands, hills, and forests.
The Rikugien Garden is known as one of the best spots for autumn foliage viewing.
From around late-November, approximately 560 trees including 400 Japanese maple, wax, and ginkgo trees are turning red and yellow.

One of my top three favorite parks in Tokyo! The history of the garden is very interesting and adds to it's mystical charm. Very relaxing and beautiful. It's a perfect getaway for anyone in the Tokyo area looking for a slice of nature. It's only ¥300 to enter, which is great because if it was free, there would be more people, but it's not too crowded. I love this place!

I love gardens and this garden was unique. The trees and flowers were amazing.
You should definitely try this place.

$3 entry fee for adults. Closes at 5pm. Super cute and actually rather large inside. There are multiple wooded trails to take and wonder through the back of the garden; where there are bridges and waterfalls. Very Japanese aesthetic and authentic. Small snack resturant and tea house inside. I will definately go back. Able to quickly see most of it in 45 mins. But you will want to spend more time here leisurely walking. Flowers abloom... hydrangeas and others! Walk along the way back to the station is nice...lots of small quaint local shops. It's a must!
