Yokohama Port Symbol Tower was completed in 1986 over Honmoku Pier D jetty. It stands 58.5 meters tall on a green tract of land, and greets ships entering the Yokohama harbor. The tower sends signals out to cruise ships and cargo ships that enter the Yokohama harbor from all over the world to ensure the security of travels.
From the observation room at 36.5 meters above ground, visitors can view the span of Yokohama’s port, Miura Peninsula, Boso Peninsula, the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line, and Mt. Fuji on a clear day.
There is a parkland around the tower which is open as a recreation area for citizens. Various events have been held here such as flea markets, concerts, and dance shows.
