Words can't describe the overwhelming beauty of this gorge. Two volcanic eruptions of Mount Aso around 100,000 years ago covered this area with lava, which later on formed a chasm in the columnar joint process, and was gradually eroded by the river, now known as the Gokase River. The waters are transparent, and your heart will be awash with the beauty of soaring cliffs, rapids carving out rocks, and spring waters trickling here and there.
The most popular is the spot where you can view a waterfall (Manai Waterfall) at the narrowest area of the gorge. Put on a life jacket, and get onboard a small two-man boat to paddle down for half an hour. There are always crowds of people, but once you are out in the water, noises are drowned out and sounds of splash and water birds touch your heart. Looking down at the ravine from above is also fascinating, with illumination lit up until 10pm in the summer.

I've wanted to visit this place for a while and finally did. It did not disappoint. Beautiful blue waters, stunning views and not packed with tourists or locals. The boat rental is reasonably priced, ¥2000 for 30 minutes.
Nice gift shops, ¥500 for parking, cafes and food stalls. Definitely worth a visit. Stunning place

It was certainly worth to go and see the waterfall in the gorge from the bridge. It looks like paradise on earth. No need for me to go into the gorge in a boat (I was on cycling trip and just made a short stop), but if you have the time, I can imagine people like to do it.

A stunning place. I have to admit that I was disappointed that the boat rentals shut down before 4:30pm due to a line, but the best views are definitely from above. Unfortunately, they’ve had to rope off some of the water under the falls because people who don’t know how to boat get excited, but it’s nice to have pictures of the boats all the same to get an idea of scale. The parking lot doesn’t seem to charge after 5pm-you’re welcome. I recommend arriving then for nice evening light and lesser crowds as well.

Very beautiful place but not as unique as the travel guide said. The famous valley and fall with 10 metres square. I expected can spend one day in there, however it just need around 1.5 hour then nothing to see.

They have a very beautiful waterfall. I saw some ducks, very cute. We tried to ride the boat but we have to wait around 30 minutes up to 120 minutes. I think it's a great place to have a date for those who likes light outdoor activity.
