Kikuchi Onsen is a relatively new hot spring discovered in 1954. The waters are colorless and slightly alkaline, believed to make your skin as smooth as maiden's with healing qualities for rheumatism, nerve and stomach conditions. With a perfect temperature around 45 degrees Celsius, the waters are directly supplied to the bath pools of some 40 ryokan inns in this resort.
The town is itself has a long history dating back more than 1,000 years and has castle ruins. The park next to Kikuchi Shrine is a great cherry-blossom spot with nearly 10,000 trees blooming in the spring against the distance views of Mount Aso and Mount Unzen. The valley located 20km east of the town, a northwest part of the out rim of Mount Aso, is a good summer retreat and a favorite for autumn foliage viewers.

At a hot spring town, "shu-u-ken" as a visit to hot spring resorts draft is issued, and it's possible to enjoy 3 hot springs for 1000 yen.
An entertainment area-like element was learned about by a strong thing and was a spa of the banquet type a male visitor and party travelers call an attendant in the past. Therefore the number of guests stagnates in the recent woman customer and recuperation type of individual and family visitor center-oriented flow, and keeps decreasing peaking at about 440,000 people in 1989.
