Ohara Matsuri is Kagoshoma's largest dance festival held on 2nd and 3rd of November. To the lively rhythm of the Ohara-bushi folk song, some 260 teams involving 20,000 dancers in and outside of the city take to the streets, loudly shouting 'Yoiyasa'. Each team were assorted traditional costume with vibrant colors - light kimono, short-sleeved hanten and some modern varieties.
The performance of taiko drums and other stage shows also attract visitors. Dance practice for tourists is held in the city hall on the first day, and you are welcome to jump in the parade and dance to your heart's content. The main parade venue is the Tenmonkan district, one of the largest shopping and entertainment area in Kyushu.
