If you are interesting in watching whales and dolphins in the sea, Cape Muroto is the best place in Japan. The waters off this cape are passages for a variety of species including the sperm whale, false killer whale, short-finned pilot whale, bottlenosed dolphin and short-beaked common dolphin. Local fishermen, who know every part of Tosa Bay, will introduce you to whale families and a swarm of dolphins.

The best season to watch sperm whales is from March to May. You might be able to see the toothed whale, one of the largest whales in the world measuring up to 18m. Another highlight is the mirage of the sun on the horizon that can be seen from the cape at sunrise and sunset. The image looks like a round head sticking out from the sea and is called 'daruma' in Japanese.

I have also visited Kouchi for whale waching along with Shimanto River. It was very interesting.
