In the famous cycling route (Shimanami Kaido), which passes over six islands in the Seto Inland Sea, Omishima Island is the largest island and almost the halfway point of the route. If you come from Onomichi in Hiroshima, this is the fourth island after crossing the 1,480m-long Tatara Ohashi bridge, one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in the world. Spend at least half a day to make a 40km loop, some part of which is quite mountainous.

Oyamazumi Shrine, which has been a center of worship for sailors and soldiers around the inland sea, has a treasure house displaying 40% of ancient armor and weapons in the country. Museums also abound ranging from modern sculpture and architecture to calligraphy and Japanese traditional paintings. The beach has crystal-clear waters, and you will see many stalls selling lemons and oranges.
