Established in 1873, this is Japan's first public park in the Western sense. The area is quite a popular tourist and recreation spot for both Japanese and foreigners. The spacious park houses many museums such as the Tokyo National Museum and the National Museum for Western Arts.

The park is also home to Ueno Zoo, Japan's first zoological garden, and Shinobazu Pond where people paddle leisure boats. It is very nice to amble through a long, wide walkway flanked with a myriad of cherry and gingko trees. The springtime cherry views and autumn foliage of red maples are stunning.

The Ueno Hills had been the Tokugawa Shogunate's family temple ground until the Meiji Restoration in 1868 when Emperor Meiji moved from Kyoto to Edo (present day Tokyo). Then the Meiji government rapidly transformed the Ueno Hills into the Japan's first public park as well as the Japan's most cultural and academic area. So you can enjoy both histrical and cultural environments there. Ueno is located so closely to Asakusa, one of the Japan's oldest and most popular temple, that you can easily extend your leg to Asakusa, too.

Best season to see the cherry blossoms is end of March early April, best blooming cherry blossoms at Ueno Park in Tokyo. There are a variety of cherry, overlapping, endless. Beautiful is not only a brilliant pink, and drop petals, friends under a tree beside the road around, bring food and beer party scene and don't have a flavor.

Mr LU Xun once said, "the season of Ueno cherry deep vermilion, looked like a Crimson cloud". Thanks to Lu Xun, publicity, Ueno Park as the cherry name awareness among Chinese people is quite high. The day I went to at the weekend, saw a cluster of pink cherry blossoms forming a world full of cherry blossoms, really charming, people feel instantly happy. Under the cherry trees in groups of people sat on the floor, ate a snack and admire the enchanting scenery.
