The ever-evolving central Tokyo has some areas with flavors of old Japan, and the best example is Asakusa.
The area's top attraction is Sensoji Temple with a history of 1400 years, the oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo.
At the entrance stands Kaminari-mon gate with a giant red lantern flanked by two imposing statues (gods of wind and thunder, respectively) that will lead you into the precincts.

The temple is preceded by a 250m-long street (Nakamise-dori) packed with food stalls and souvenir shops.
The smells of traditional Japanese snacks - senbei (salty rice cracker), kaminari-okoshi (crispy, puffed rice cracker), age-manju (fried bun with red bean paste) and yokan (cold gelatinized sweet) are irresistible.
The souvenir shops sell paper lanterns, folding fans, wooden clogs, kimono and other traditional toys with a feel of the Edo period.

The temple enshrines a golden image of Kannon (goddess of mercy) that is said to make all of your wishes come true.
This is Tokyo's most visited temple and a must-see spot in Japan.

Together with Asakusa if it is with children, it is good to go to the flowers nearby. Then you can enjoy it with your family.

Asakusa area can be characterized by three major features, Nakamise (shopping arcade), Sensoji Buddhist temple and Asakusa Shinto shrine.

It is the most popular tourist spot in Tokyo for all the tourists including Japanese because Asakusa, in fact, reminds us of old good days of Edo, former name of Tokyo. Please enjoy Asakusa with me.
