This artificial beach on the northwest coast of the Motobu Peninsula is among the most pristine in Okinawa. The water is crystal clear and the vast ocean ahead is cobalt blue as far as you can see. The artificial beach means that you are not expected to see a swarm of fish or a cluster of corals under the sea, but it is large enough to cater to 3,000 swimmers and the coral sand is perfectly white.

The beach is divided into three section: Play, Leisure, and Scenery. There are many visitors around here, as the beach is located in the north end of the Ocean Expo Park, which houses the famous Churaumi Aquarium and a huge botanical garden. This area also plays host to the summer festival in the middle of July, offering concerts and fireworks.

They are only open from April - September. October - March, nothing is open and NO swimming is allowed. It looked like a super nice beach and we couldn’t find anything on the website stating if they were closed or not. A bit disappointing, so just be aware that you can only swim from April - September.

The beach is superb. But just so you know : you can't swim in this 50cm water.

Very clear water and beautiful beach. Shop nearby to rent parasols. No snorkelling or Diving allowed.

I guess it’s ok if you go with kids or don’t feel confident swimming in open water, as there is a lot of life guards, and the beach is closed with nets and buoys. That’s what, in my opinion, make this place unappealing. Things get worse with low tide, as the enclosure gets significantly smaller, and the max depth is about 1 meter, with lots of see weeds at the bottom. I bet your hotel swimming pool would make a much better option.

Want to see the biggest fish in the world in an aquarium? Come up close to the 2 resident whale sharks and other interesting creatures. Be sure to catch the free dolphin show outside. Fabulously entertaining.
