Kokusai Avenue4.3
This 1.6km street is Naha's main artery lined with department stores, hotels, restaurants, cafes, travel agencies, boutiques and souvenir shops. The avenue is vibrant and bustling with a high traffic and shops open until late at night. For laid-back shopping opportunities, there are three arcades running south off this avenue - Ichiba-hon-dori, Heiwa-dori and Mutsumi-bashi-dori.
The avenue was once called the "Miracle Mile” because of its rapid recovery after WWII. The current name Kokusai ('international') is derived from the now defunct "Ernie Pyle International Theater", a cinema built along the street after the war. In August, this avenue hosts the Eisa Dancing Festival, a parade of traditional Okinawa dances.
