Okutsu Onsen is a hot spring resort in the north mountains of Okayama Prefecture. There are several ryokan inns and open pools near a bridge crossing the upstream of the Yoshii River. The spring waters gush up from 150m underground with 40 or so degrees Celsius, the ideal temperature without cooling. The waters are said to have a curative for skin and nerve conditions.

The two open pools on the riverside were originally used by locals to do the laundry with feet, while watching out for bears and wolves. On Sundays from April to November, local ladies demonstrate this traditional way of stomp washing, dress with a hood and a red sash. This resort is one of three onsen in the Mimasaka area, together with Yubara Onsen and Yunogo Onsen.
