The sprawling Osaka City can be viewed from the top of the Umeda Sky Building, a futuristic twin-tower complex located at the center of the Kita district of Osaka. Affectionately dubbed "Arc de Triomphe of Osaka", the 170 meter-high complex has an 360-degree observatory at the top.

The observation deck, selected as one of the 100 most beautiful sunset-watching spots in Japan, is also a place to marvel at million-dollar night views. The restaurants and cafes on the 40th floor offer relaxation with good views. To take home a lasting moment of Osaka experience, drop in at souvenir shops on the 39th floor.

Beautiful high skyscraper. Going to the top with the inwards very long escalators is fun. They will charge you an extreme amount to visit the sky deck. The restaurants situated at the inner ring are fancy but you will pay for the height, view, food and brand. The shopping mall is big and has many different shops. It's worth visiting this skyscraper rather than Osaka Tower.

Osaka was a great disappointment for me, but if I had to name a highlight it would definitely be the Sky Building. I visited late in the evening and enjoyed the view from the observation deck and it was absolutely great. You can see in every direction and take your time. It's a very modern and cool architecture and taking the escalator through the "hole" as well as the elevator down certainly is an experience.

The Umeda Sky Building is my favourite building in the world. In 2002 when I first arrived to teach in Japan I was taken past it at night when it was fully lit and immediately fell in love. The building itself has lots of restaurants in the basement and first/ground floor. Entrance to the floating roof is free with the Osaka Amazing 2 Day Pass (which is well worth the price). Be aware that the elevator to the observation area and roof is sneaky, that is to say it seems like it is inside the building and then after a couple of floors opens out into a glass elevator which allows you to see your ascent. This can be a little bit of a shock and even going up for the 5th time it was a bit of a white knuckle ride.

In the observation area there is a small museum about the building, a gift shop, a restaurant and a coffee shop. The coffee shop sells special waffles of the sky building, and for those of us not so comfortable with the height has a good selection of beer. The view from the coffee shop level is amazing and allows you to see a lot of Osaka. The roof can be windy even on still days, so be aware of this if you are not so happy with heights.

Even if you don't go up to the top of the building, there are several peaceful gardens around the base of the building to relax in.

As far as I can remember, you have to line up for the elevator before you can buy the tickets. The line for the elevator will be long but once you're up, it's very easy to get the tickets. The ride up was enjoyable although it goes really fast. Once you reach the top, you can enjoy an unobstructed view of the skyline. If you go there at night, wear white shoes (you'll see why once you're up there)!! Going through the escalators to get to the top was an absolute experience! I enjoyed Umeda Sky!

Since I was born and grew up in Osaka, I know this spot well. By the way, there are many other tourists spots in Osaka City, such as Dotombori, Shinsaibashi and Osaka castle. I can also guide these spots. Please visit Osaka!
