Kurama Temple was founded when the monk Ganjin’s discipline Gancho dedicated the temple to Bishamonten.
From the entrance of the temple, the Niomon Gate, it takes around 30 minutes to walk up the mountain, or you can take a cable-car to Tahoto Sta(100yen/one way). Kurama Temple is famous as a great place to see cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in autumn, and its view from the main hall is spectacle. In the precincts of a temple, there is a Reihoden Museum which exhibits treasures of Kurama Temple such as the statue of Bishamonten and the relics from the sutra mound. On June 20 each year, the temple holds their bamboo cutting ritual.
