If you want to get your bearings, Tokyo Tower is a first place to start your tour in the city. This 333m-high tower was erected in 1958 to serve as a TV and radio broadcast antenna and has since been the main symbol and attraction of the capital city. The majestic form in red and white stands out beautifully in night illumination.
The main observatory at 150m and the special observatory at 250m offer panoramic views over the metropolis and, weather permitting, as far as Boso Peninsula and Mount Fuji. The souvenir shop on the tower base (2nd floor) is filled with Tokyo specialties, some of which are limited to this shop. Around the tower are parks and greenery space where you can enjoy a happy stroll on a fine day.

It was beautiful to see this Tower from far away but I expected too much. Not as high as my expectation. I went here at night and it was not too crowded. Some decks was under renovation. I didn't go up, I just checked a mini winter illumination at the tower yard. You have to try a halal certified ice cream here. Tasted so good

Absolutely gorgeous must see attraction in Tokyo. I went at night and it was a beautiful view from the main deck. The staff were very friendly and helped me earnestly. Though they didn't speak much English, they tried their best to make sure I understood.
The gifts from the gift shop were fairly priced and had good variety. There are also some shops on the bottom floor. If you're into one piece, there is a one piece cafe in the bottom floor as well.
Overall I would highly suggest this Tokyo classic. During special holidays, the interior is decorated appropriately, so I would suggest waiting until a holiday to go. Very good experience and I will be going again.

Tokyo Tower was erected in 1958 as a broadcasting tower. It controls broadcast signals for television, FM radio transmission and reception, and traffic information transmission in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The tower is also used for collecting weather and air pollution data.
It soars 333 m (364 yd.) into the air. This makes it taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris, which was built to a height of 320 m (349 yd.) in 1889. Tokyo Tower is the highest self-supporting iron tower.
The tower is a famous sightseeing spot in Tokyo and it has two observatories: one at 150 m (164 yd.) and the other at 250 m (273 yd.) above the ground, that are crowded with visitors enjoying the view. During the day, it is possible to see the buildings and green areas of Tokyo and Mt. Fuji in the distance. After sunset there is a beautiful view of the city lights.

A Majestic Experience!
From far away the tower looks like most towers you may have seen but once you are under it you can truly appreciate the enormity of the tower.
Upon entering there is plenty to occupy your time, there's a gift shop, an aquarium (not very good), and on the 2 floors above there's plenty of shopping to do and shops to see.
Once on the tour, they provide you with a tablet that provides a guided tour of the tower. The history behind the tower was quite intriguing. Once at the top of the tower, the view is magnificent! Your tablet informs you of all the local sights near and far.
Once your tower of the top floors is complete there is another gift shop and a cafe to take a break from the tour.

Doesn't quite have the dramatic placement of the Eiffel Tower, it's in a very functional area with good and efficient parking. It was designed to be a TV tower first and visitor attraction second, so it's positioned to send TV signals not to be the heart of a city.
However, it's so much better than the Eiffel Tower in ways that matter.
- Parking and easy access
- Lots of lifts that aren't confusing or so busy you wait for hours
- No queues
- Friendly staff that actually want you to be there
- High quality shops
- Great food
Basically everything the Eiffel Tower isn't
It's not as high as the Sky Tree and doesn't quite have the views that some other famous towers do, but has great views of Tokyo and is worth a visit to see this iconic tower.

Tokyo tower still keeps its exterior elegance, and many of the people still prefer to visit here rather than Tokyo Sky Tree.
Shall we enjoy the panoramic view of Tokyo from the observation deck?
