If you want to get your bearings, Tokyo Tower is a first place to start your tour in the city.
This 333m-high tower was erected in 1958 to serve as a TV and radio broadcast antenna and has since been the main symbol and attraction of the capital city.
The majestic form in red and white stands out beautifully in night illumination.
The main observatory at 150m and the special observatory at 250m offer panoramic views over the metropolis and, weather permitting, as far as Boso Peninsula and Mount Fuji.
The souvenir shop on the tower base (2nd floor) is filled with Tokyo specialties, some of which are limited to this shop.
Around the tower are parks and greenery space where you can enjoy a happy stroll on a fine day.

I went to Tokyo Tower originally to only see the One Piece attraction. However, when I arrived I thought I would enjoy all the tower has to offer. I was not disappointed.
The One Piece museum is any fan's dream. It has fun attractions to keep you entertained, a live show and a themed restaurant, if you're hungry. I causally made my way through the exhibitions and games with a huge smile etched on my face as I recalled all of the moments that our favourite pirate crew have been through. It's a must-see for anyone who loves One Piece. I don't understand Japanese but it didn't stop me from having such a great time.
The Tokyo Tower was next on my list. I purchased the full experience, which allowed me to head to the highest viewing platform. I went on an extremely clear day and I was able to see all the way to Mt. Fuji. If it was any clearer I may have been able to see mainland China. It was a little over priced for what you get but it's my first time on Japan and I thought it was a great experience.

Tokyo Tower is a major historic landmark in Japan. While vacationing in Tokyo, we decided that this was in important destination to include on our itinerary. Skytree is newer and taller, but the tower was part of Japan's reconstruction, with lots of history and a beautiful Eiffel Tower type of architecture.
Walking to Tokyo tower was easy even with large crowds everywhere watching the outside show and waiting to take the elevator up. We stood in a long line that moved pretty fast. We had tickets in little time and before we knew it, we were heading up the elevator to the main platform. There is a higher platform which cost a bit more money, but our group was more than satisfied to look out from the larger main platform, which is still pretty high up and provides a great 360 degree view of the city.
The main platform has lots of space for walking around all of the windows to get some awesome views of the surrounding city. You are pretty much free to shop in the gift shop and leisurely enjoy the view. If you get there in the evening, you can capture some beautiful sunset pictures. A glass panel in the floor provides a window to see all the way to the ground below.
Tokyo Tower is a wonderful way to take in the beauty of the city and create some great memories to share over and over. It's well worth the visit.

Awesome views of Tokyo from the top of this historic landmark. Plan on ~40 minutes if you are going all the way to the top. The cost was about 2900 yen. There are two level options - if you are there you may as well just go all the way to the top - so worth it. The elevator itself is an entertaining ride as you get to make your way up through the visible frame work and beams – an interesting site for sure. When you get up to the top they make sure you are well accommodated for and there is even a robot to talk to – kind of a gimmick, I suppose. The entrance fee includes an audio device set to your native language. With the audio device you are set for a self-guided tour that goes over the history of the Tokyo Tower and its designer, all of which is really quite interesting to listen to and see (the visible displays along the way). The top of the tower provides really great views of Tokyo and a glimpse of how vast Tokyo really is. Be sure to snap some photos while you are up there – all behind the glass of course as they do not allow access to the outside from there. The end of the tour lands you in the gift shop, of course.

Definitely a tourist trip, but almost a must for first timers to Tokyo. Plenty of replicas and souvenirs of the tower along with exhibits about it's history. There's a large One Piece theme park occupying a couple stores. If you're feeling adventurous you can even take the stairs to the main deck, weather permitting. Plus they offer some freebies on your birthday most notably a choice of ice cream, crepe or waffle

This was on my bucket list before I went to Tokyo, and I was not disappointed. There’s a bit of a wait and it costs more to go to the top deck, but the city views were outstanding. Don’t freak out on the elevator going to the top like I did, it’s definitely safe.
The main deck is about halfway up the tower and there are windows in the floor! The kids were scared of them, so I showed them that they were safe.

Tokyo tower still keeps its exterior elegance, and many of the people still prefer to visit here rather than Tokyo Sky Tree.
Shall we enjoy the panoramic view of Tokyo from the observation deck?
