Established in 1877, the National Museum of Nature and Science (Kahaku) is one of the oldest museums in Japan. It is also the only national museum in the country that offers a comprehensive exhibition of natural history and the history of science and technology, with over 25,000 exhibits.
The Japan Gallery, organized around a key theme of “ The Environment of Japanese Islands”, is located inside a classic building designated as a National Important Cultural Property. Informative exhibits include Futabasaurus found in Fukushima, various animals and vegetation of Japan, as well as scientific technologies. Visitors can also study biodiversity of the Earth through specimens of various inhabitants on our planet at the Global Gallery, where “ The History of Life on Earth” is its theme.
One of the highlights of this museum is its domed 360-degree movie theater. There is also an area where you can investigate various physical phenomena hands-on, an indoor exhibition space for small kids and a gift shop with dinosaurs and other science-related goods.
