Aoba Castle Ruins4.3
This castle was established in the early 17th century by the feudal lord Date Masamune. All the buildings were destroyed during WWII but the remaining stone walls are imposing and the grounds offer sweeping views of the city. The history museum, with English audio guide, provides a fascinating look into this castle in the Edo period.
It is fun to stroll around a larger-than-life statue of Masamune on horseback, while tasting grilled beef tongue, Sendai's famous treat.
