Matsushima Bay Cruise4.5
Matsushima's picturesque bay, dotted with hundreds of pine-covered islands, is considered one of Japan's three great sights. The best way to get the feel of the bay is go out on a sightseeing boat. Cruise boats, departing every hour, make a loop tour for 50 minutes. Seasonally, there are longer cruises to reach the innermost, unspoiled areas of Oku-Matsushima.
The Matsushima Bay was hit by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, but did not suffer major damage. From Sendai City, the 30-minute express train takes you to the ferry piers.
