Renovated in 2008, the Sendai Astronomical Observatory in the west of the city features a gigantic planetarium and a huge telescope. The fully digital planetarium with a diameter of 25m is the largest of its kind in Japan. The 1.3m-diameter telescope is open to the public every Saturday night.
