This onsen resort dating from the 18 century is located along the upstream of the Kinugawa River in Nikko. Between the train station and a nearby park, hot spring inns stretch on both sides of the gorge with strange-shaped rocks. This spot makes a good day or overnight trip from Tokyo, drawing families and group tourists. The waters are supposed to be effective for burns.
The town has an array of bars, eateries and souvenir shops, and most of the hotels and ryokan inns have their own night-life entertainment facilities. Recommended souvenirs include onsen manju (bean paste buns), traditional trinkets and pottery fired in Nikko's kilns. Edo Wonderland, a theme park modeled on the Edo period street scenes, and Tobu World Square, which displays miniature replicas of worldly famous architectures, are close to this onsen.
