Tama Zoological Park3.8
This zoo is located far away west from central Tokyo (1 hour by train) but is the largest in Japan with an area of 50 hectares. Cages and fences are very minimal so that the animals are allowed to roam freely, and visitors can observe their natural behaviors. There are 350 species and herds of animals in a near-native environment can be seen.
You can watch orangutans briskly strolling through the rope course and koalas eating eucalyptus leaves. The walk-through bird cage and the insect exhibits are very popular. This is a good place for children and adults alike.
