This name refers to the large business, shopping and entertainment district surrounding Shinjuku Station. This busy district has a number of high-rise buildings including the Metropolitan Government Office, upscale department storescompeting each other desperately, and plenty of gourmet spots and shanty izakaya. Shinjuku is the place where the hurly-burly of the modern city mingles with a nostalgic atmosphere.

Shinjuku Station is a terminal accessible with many railways lines, with a daily average of 3.5 million people passing through its tickets gates, making it the world's busiest station. To the east of the station spread a array of department stores - Isetan, Takashimaya, Odakyu, Keio, Marui and Lumine. After shopping and dining, you can drop in at large electric appliance stores like Big Camera and Yodobashi Camera. For night views, head westward to the observation deck at the Metropolitan Government Building, and conclude you day with an izakaya drink in Kabukicho.
