Naruko Onsen is well know for having several distinct springs, ranging from acidic sulfurous waters to slimy alkaline soaks. There are large hotels, hot spring ryokan and sanatorium inns, most of which offer a free use of wooden clogs (geta) so you will hear the clip-clop sounds throughout the town. Naruko is also famous for a type of traditional dolls (kokeshi) and you will see plenty of them in the shops and on the streets.
A pass allowing to visit multiple baths is recommended. For a daytime visitor, the public bathhouse called Taki-no-yu is a wonderful experience with a minimal fee. Free footbaths are also available.
