Sakata City Museum of Art, which stands on a hill, is designed with a concept of harmonious fusion with nature. The exhibit space is full of natural light coming through glass walls, and marble stone floors are slightly uneven to feel like the natural ground outside. Some partition walls are made to look like natural wood surface , and you will find ammonite fossils in some of the marble walls. The huge garden offers a great view of Mount Chokai.

The permanent collection mainly focuses on native sculptor Takahashi Go and native painter Saito Chozo. It is a 20-minute bus ride from Sakata Station.
