An image of Jizo (Buddhist god) used to stand at the entrance of this tunnel, and was believed to cause mysterious phenomenons. There were two jinxes: if the Jizo image looked smiling to you, you would never go in and come back safe from the tunnel; and if you saw the doors of this small Jizo shrine open, you would be involved in an accident on your way home.

The image has been removed, reducing the intensity and frequency of the phenominons, but this spot remains to be the most haunted place in the Shikoku region. Recently a college student happened to take a spiritual picture in the tunnel and committed suicide one month later. There are still many reports that a car gets scratches all over on the body when passing through this tunnel.
