Ippon-sugi (’solitary cedar')3.5

This tall cedar tree stands unnaturally in the median of the local Route 36. The 30m-tall tree is around 450 years old and has been worshiped and feared by locals. When the road was constructed, workers who tried to cut down this tree suddenly fell ill or had accidents, so the tree was left untouched.

The tree is obviously an obstacle to the relatively heavy traffic here, but you should imagine there is a serious reason behind this situation. The ambiance is indescribably heavy, and there are many reports of accidents around here.
